‘Chance to start him against Fulham, a very quick player’: Paul Merson can’t believes 22-year-old Chelsea player stunning performance against Brighton

Paul Merson praised Chelsea’s Armando Broja after his late cameo appearance in yesterday’s win against Brighton.

Armando Broja, 22, came off the bench for the final few minutes of Chelsea’s 1-0 home victory versus Brighton, which took place in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

The striker is only recently back from a long-term injury layout, so we’re expecting it to take some time before he’s up to full speed again.

However, Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson was impressed by the centre-forward’s late runout.

Merson thinks Broja looked strong back on the pitch. He was blown away by the youngster’s pace, too.

“Broja came on and was very good. If he can get on the pitch and get fit, he’ll be like a new signing for them,” Merson told Sky Sports’ Football channel.

“The way Broja played, I think he will [play against Fulham]. He looked very strong, very quick. He was very good before he got injured. He was going places.”

Chelsea will surely have one of the quickest forward lines across the Premier League if you get Broja, Raheem Sterling and Mykhailo Mudryk on the pitch at the same time.

We agree that Broja was on the rise before his injury setback. In fact, his layout came at the worst time because the striker position was wide open in the second half of last season.

We’ll have to wait and see how match fit he currently is, but pre-injury he showed he’s absolutely rapid.

Ben Chilwell claimed last year that Broja is even faster than Chelsea teammate Raheem Sterling, as quoted by the club’s official website.

It was great to see Blues striker Nicolas Jackson back in the goals by scoring the winner against Brighton. He’ll soon have 22-year-old Broja hot on his heels for the starting position, though.
