Tammy Abraham scored and also assisted Mason Mount’s goal as Chelsea beat Aston Villa 2-1 at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas is unimpressed with Abraham’s decision not to celebrate his goal against Aston Villa.
Abraham spent last season on loan at Aston Villa, scoring 26 goals to help the Birmingham side gain promotion to the Premier League, which made him a favourite among the Villa fans. “There is not a big celebration from him,” Nicholas said on Sky Sports. “I don’t know what the surprise on that is.
“It doesn’t matter [if he scored 26 goals for Aston Villa last season]. He’s a Chelsea player. He was a Chelsea player then when he went on-loan. I’m sorry, go and celebrate a goal. You’re playing for Chelsea.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea legend Joe Cole has explained why Abraham is an important player for the Blues. Speaking on Amazon Prime, Cole said: “It didn’t surprise me because I know the lad, I know how he trains, and I know what he’s capable of.
“What he does Tammy, he gives you such a hunger on the pitch to score goals. This kid, when he scores goals in training, when he taps one in from three yards, he celebrates.
“I think that’s why he’s galvanised the club, he’s galvanised the fans, and it just shows you how important it is that he’s back in tonight, and the fans will be breathing a sigh of relief because they think now ‘that’s us, that’s our identity.”
