Talks are reportedly ongoing between Chelsea and Barcelona over the transfer of Brazil international Willian.
It comes as no surprise that the La Liga giants are chasing Willian. He was exceptional during the first-leg of our Champions League clash with them. The 29-year-old scored a superb low-driven goal, and was unfortunate not to bag a couple more on the night.
When Barcelona recruited Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund following the departure of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain, it appeared as though they had that position sorted for the foreseeable future.
However, Dembele is raw and may not be ready to carry so much responsibility on his young shoulders. Willian is used to the pressure of playing for a big club, and Barcelona appear keen to take him to the Nou Camp.
According to Sky Sports, Barca have already seen a £50M bid for Willian rejected. Talks are still thought to be ongoing to take him to the Spanish champions this summer. That suggests that Chelsea are open to the idea of selling for the right price.
It’d be a great shame to see Willian leave, but if the money received was reinvested into a younger model, such as Leon Bailey, it wouldn’t be bad business.
