Issa Diop has responded to speculation that Chelsea are lining up a sensational January move. Since news broke in the media a few weeks ago that Chelsea will indeed be able to delve into their transfer kitty and land a few players, there has been all sorts of transfer speculation about whom will come in, who will be signed to improve the side and who Frank Lampard will turn too.
But there is a feeling in the media that Lampard needs to spend some serious money to help improve this young CHELSEA back-line and add a bit more power, a bit more presence and a bit more quality to that defence. And recent reports have claimed Chelsea have been watching Diop, who has three and a half years left on his West Ham contract, for some time, with Lampard keen to add defensive reinforcements to his youthful team, and a bid is now imminent. The Frenchman has now spoken out on speculation, which has also included links to Tottenham and Manchester United.
“It doesn’t make me hot or cold,” he told Foot Mercato. “I’m not in negotiations, I don’t want to know which club is interested in me. “So for me, it doesn’t really change anything.
“Most of the time, they are friends who send me screenshots to tell me: “Issa is watching” . I don’t even know first.
“Then it’s the transfer window, there are things that are true, others that are false.
“So honestly, I don’t pay too much attention to it.” Look, Diop is almost ready to make that big money move to one of the Premier Leagues top sides, and his performances over the past 12 months mean that he will cost big money.
But the amount it would cost Chelsea to sign him would be about the same as it would to land a more experienced, world class defender, so maybe they should look elsewhere for now. They have enough talented defenders, they NEED A READY-MADE DEFENDER.
