Cesar Azpilicueta has been linked with a transfer to Spain, with two clubs in his Basque home region linked in today’s Daily Mirror.
It shows just how crazily quickly these rumours start and spread that it’s even come to this.
Azpi has played pretty much every match every season for what feels like a decade now, yet his obituary is being written and his transfer exit arranged by hopeful media sources.
His apparent replacement, Reece James, hasn’t even played a senior game for the club yet, but he’s already heralded as the man to replace Azpi, the club captain and most consistent player over the last 5 or 6 years.
Yes he’s in bad form at the moment, and may well be in permanent decline, but can we take a day off from gleefully predicting his exit please?
It’s starting to feel like people are just wishing it on him at this stage…
