Here’s the news that many have been waiting for – Gary Cahill is reportedly prepared to quit Chelsea this summer.
Cahill has been an integral figure in our recent successes, but that’s not to say that he’s been an impeccable servant on the pitch.
The Englishman is at his best when Chelsea are setting up to defend. Give him a small area of the pitch to defend, and he can do it effectively.
However, he’s unable to bring the ball out from the back, he’s not a particularly good passer of the ball, and he’s becoming decreasingly mobile.
Cahill is not the modern defender. He’s not a Maurzio Sarri defender. His time as a Chelsea player may well be coming to an end.
According to Standard Sport, Cahill is considering leaving this summer, as Chelsea prepare for the arrival of Daniele Rugani from Juventus in a £44.2M deal.
He has just one-year remaining on his contract with the club. Now may well be the best time for him to call time on his Chelsea career.
