Since Chelsea signed Kenneth Omeruo from Standard Liege in 2012, he has been sent out on loan every season.

Earlier in the summer, the 25-year-old joined Leganes on a season-long loan deal, where he has been restricted to just two starts in the league and one start in the Copa del Rey this season.

The Nigerian international’s contract at Stamford Bridge runs down in 2020 and despite having several loan spells, the defender has failed to find a way into the west London club’s squad.

Omeruo sat down for an interview with Somos Lega and the African player was asked if he would like to return to the Premier League club after the end of the season.

He said: “Mmmm no (laughs). I want to be in Leganés, in Spain. Play and improve here. I would like to continue with Leganés.”

Mauricio Pellegrino took charge at Leganes in the summer, months after he was sacked at Southampton. The Argentine was a centre-back during his playing career and Omeruo explained how his manager has helped him improve his game.

“He is a very interesting person when it comes to work, I respect him very much because he is a legend. He was a great centre-back,” the versatile defender explained.

“I did not have the opportunity to see him play but fortunately people have spoken very well of him. I look at him because he was a great centre-back. Talks a lot with me, teaches me videos and tries to correct my mistakes. That is very important for my performance.”
