Liverpool must fend off the threat of Premier League rivals Chelsea in their pursuit of in-form Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne following the news that the Blues are lining up the aforementioned Italian international player as a possible replacement for wantaway Chelsea talisman Eden Hazard.
Belgian forward Hazard has been strongly linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Lorenzo Insigne has been in very good form for Napoli this term with 11 goals and six assists in 27 appearances in all competitions.
Earlier reports had claimed that Liverpool had an opening offer of £61m turned down for Italian international star Lorenzo Insigne with the player rated at around £140m.
It was revealed that the Reds made the bid through an intermediary believed to be super agent Mino Raiola but it was immediately knocked back by Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis.
Chelsea have been targeting several players as possible signing for Eden Hazard in the event that the Belgian international attacker end his seven-year stay at the club this summer.
European champions Real Madrid have been long-term admirers of Hazard dating back to last summer when they were heavily linked with him as a like-for-like replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo who joined Italian Serie A champions Juventus in July.
