Chelsea fans believe they will sign €22m striker to challenge Nicolas Jackson
After his most recent social media activity, Chelsea supporters are certain that Jhon Duran, the striker for Aston Villa, is hoping to finalize a summer transfer to Stamford Bridge.
The 20-year-old Duran signed with Unai Emery’s team in January 2023 for an initial €16.6 million from Chicago Fire, with add-ons potentially raising that amount to €22 million. However, since joining, Duran has been required to cover for Ollie Watkins.
The Colombian striker has played in just 1,131 minutes for Villa, but in that time, he has shown promise by scoring eight goals for the team, including a brace on Monday night against Liverpool.
Chelsea emerged as shock candidates to sign Duran in the January transfer window, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side reportedly interested in pouncing amid his lack of game time at Villa Park.
The Blues had been linked with a move for Duran during his time in the MLS, but they were beaten to his signature by Villa.
Although Chelsea failed to reach an agreement to sign Duran in January, many of the club’s supporters believe a summer move could be on the cards following his most recent activity on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Jhon Duran to Chelsea?
Duran has sparked rumours of a summer transfer to Chelsea after liking numerous posts relating to the west London club.
Seven of his last 14 liked posts on X are related to Chelsea, including his most recent like (at the time of writing) – which was a post about Christopher Nkunku’s balloon celebration against Brighton & Hove Albion.
As a result, many Chelsea fans believe Duran is hoping to seal a Stamford Bridge switch as the Blues look to sign a new striker this summer.
Napoli superstar Victor Osimhen has been heavily linked with a move in recent months, while RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko is also a target, according to reports.
