Chelsea have been in the market in the past few days for a new midfielder since the departure of Cesc Fabregas to Monaco last Friday. One player linked to the club Leandro Paredes was pictured undergoing medicals which have sent some fans into frenzy.

Paredes has been the subject of a transfer move to Stamford Bridge but they saw their bid rejected by Russian side Zenit St Petersburg.

The Argentine ace joined Zenit in the summer of 2017 from Roma in a deal worth £24 million and the club wants to make a significant profit on the midfielder.

Paredes has been a key cog in the midfield for Zenit with his passing ability and tackling a major weapon in his arsenal. Chelsea reportedly view the 24-year-old as an ideal fit to Sarri-ball and a capable deputy for star midfielder Jorginho.

Negotiations are expected to continue as both clubs aim to strike a good deal in the coming days.

Paredes was pictured having his medicals as part of Zenit’s routine tests for the players returning from the winter break.

The pictures prompted reactions among fans with some suggesting that the player should be whisked to the Cobham training facility for medicals.
