Chelsea fans reacted as Arsenal manager resigns with immediate effect
Chelsea fans received an unexpected development when Arsenal Women’s head coach, Jonas Eidevall, resigned with immediate effect after a poor run of performances. The 41-year-old Swede resigned after leading his team to a poor sixth place in the Women’s Super League rankings, sparking outrage among Arsenal fans.
Eidevall’s issues worsened following Arsenal’s 5-2 Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich last week. The Gunners’ fortunes did not improve, with a 2-1 loss to Chelsea, led by Sonia Bompastor, on Saturday, leaving Eidevall to face shouts and jeers from thousands of furious Emirates supporters. The displeasure in the stands was evident, with one supporter brandishing a large P45 and another holding up a ‘Jonas Out’ placard nearby.
Chelsea’s emphatic victory at Arsenal’s home ground added salt to the wounds of Eidevall’s crumbling tenure. The Blues, under Bompastor’s guidance, remain serious contenders for the title while their London rivals scramble for stability.
Assistant coach Renée Slegers will step in as interim boss as Arsenal searches for a new full-time head coach. Arsenal’s sporting director, Edu Gaspar, expressed gratitude towards Eidevall, stating, “We thank Jonas for his commitment to the club and achievements here since joining us in 2021.” However, the focus now shifts to a new direction for the club.
Chelsea supporters will no doubt be watching closely as Arsenal seeks to recover from this setback. But for now, Sonia Bompastor and the Blues reign supreme in London after another commanding display against their rivals.
