Chelsea have decided to elect Eden Hazard as the club’s new captain, according to reports in Spain.
It seems bizarre that the man we would choose to lead the club going forward is someone who has shown willingness to depart this summer – but this is a unique situation.
Hazard is our prize asset, our crown jewel. We have to keep him at all costs, even it means giving him the armband ahead of Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz and Cesc Fabregas.
The 27-year-old captains Belgium and has grown into the role. We’d hope that, given the responsibility, he would do the same at Stamford Bridge.
It’s no certainty that he will be our next captain, but reports in Spain suggest that Chelsea could be set to make him skipper. See the below tweet.

We eagerly await further news on this. Gary Cahill is not going to be here long-term, so it wouldn’t surprise us if Maurizio Sarri gave the armband to someone else.
