According to the Daily Express, the Blues are interested in signing Real Madrid’s Lucas Vazquez. Despite rumours that Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo are contemplating their futures in the Spanish Capital, it is believed that Vazquez is also questioning his future with the Champions League winners.
Reportedly, Roman Abramovich has been in direct contact with the Spaniard, and he’s allegedly promised Vazquez a starting role within the Chelsea team.
Although it appears that the Blues retain a keen interest in the Spanish winger, the 26-year-old has only scored 16 goals in 136 games for Real Madrid. Furthermore, he has only amassed eight goals in 53 appearances for Zidane’s side this season.
Vazquez – who is valued at £22.5M by transfermarkt – is reportedly interested in a move to Stamford Bridge, yet perhaps the Blues should be targeting players of higher quality.
Chelsea poised to launch £96M move if Sarri is appointed
It appears that the Blues are in the market for another striker.
Currently, there is considerable uncertainty surrounding Chelsea. It was widely expected that Antonio Conte would depart the club and be replaced by Maurizio Sarri. However, despite naming Carlo Ancelotti as their new manager, Sarri is still under contract at Napoli.
That said, it seems that the media believe that Sarri will succeed Conte at Chelsea. The Daily Express reports that Inter Milan’s Mauro Icardi will become the club’s number one transfer target if Sarri is appointed.
Despite being controversially left out of the Argentina squad for the World Cup, Icardi has scored 107 goals in 182 appearances for Inter Milan – which included 29 this season. Following Morata’s frustrating first season with Chelsea, it’s believable that the Blues are in the market for another striker. Icardi reportedly has a £96M release clause in his contract, which expires on the 15th of July.
