Chelsea news: £34 million fee agreed–personal terms agreed–world class star is moving
CHELSEA star Mateo Kovacic has reportedly moved a step closer to joining Manchester City.
Chelsea have been one of the most active sides in the transfer windows over the last few seasons – and there are alot of changes going on in the club – with a new board – and possibly a new manager.
Kovacic, 28, has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Stamford Bridge and is free to discuss a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs in January 2024. Chelsea do not want to lose the man, but there is a feeling that he is ready to depart the club.
Kovacic had been in talks with the Premier League champions over the last week but there has now been a fee agreed between the two clubs
ESPN Reports that a deal worth €40 million (£34.2m) for Kovacic is now close. Treble winners from the Etihad Stadium are discussing how much of a big-money fee will be paid up front, with Chelsea eager to get money into their coffers before the end of June.
Sergio Aguero recently reacted to the news that Man City were about to sign Kovacic: ‘We know that Kovacic is a midfielder with very good ball handling, very much like City. He has gone through Real Madrid, Chelsea and experience also counts.
‘We will have to see what Ilkay [Gundogan] decides, he has been key at City and in the last two seasons in particular.
‘I would love for him to continue at the club, although I respect the final decision he makes. He is a great professional and a better person.’
