Chelsea offer new contract extension to Midfielder — report

N’Golo Kanté may be playing a new position this season but his importance to Chelsea remains the same as it ever was.

So it only makes sense that the club would look to tie him down to a new contract, especially as he’s now approaching the halfway point of the five-year deal he signed in the summer of 2016.

According to the Mirror, Chelsea are doing just that, offering a contract of unspecified length and terms to the 27-year-old midfielder.

The Mirror bring up the PSG boogeyman as the main motivation, but Kanté has firmly rejected all of their advances over the past year or so, and he’s certainly deserving of a new deal on his own merits already.
The only problem with this story is that something almost exactly the same was reported by the Times back in July (with £290k wages attached).

This is followed by similar positive prognostications from Kanté’s camp in the months that have followed.

We should be past the “offer contract” stage at this point…
