Chelsea player injured on international duty – Bad enough to leave pitch, manager speaks of annoyance

For this month’s international break, Steffen Højer, the manager of Denmark U21, called up Filip Jørgensen, the goalkeeper for Chelsea.

The 22-year-old played in last week’s loss against Iceland U21. He played a part in Monday’s 5-0 victory over the Czech Republic U21. He had to leave the field early “because of an injury.”

That’s according to Campo, who says nothing about the Chelsea player’s setback.

In yesterday’s UEFA U21 qualifiers, Cremonese’s Andreas Jungdal took the Blues stopper in the last quarter. The Denmark U21 coach was questioned about Jørgensen’s condition following the draw.

Højer has admitted he had a chat with Jørgensen. However, the manager isn’t aware of the nature of the injury, but it was bad enough that he couldn’t complete the full 90 minutes.

“I don’t really know. He’s being checked. I don’t know how bad it went, but it was certainly [bad] enough for him to go off,” he said.

“I just asked if he was okay. He was annoyed that he had to go off, but hopefully it is not something that is really wrong.”

There should be more clarity about Jørgensen’s injury in the next few days.

Jørgensen arrived at the west London club from Villarreal in the summer window. He’s made two appearances for Chelsea in the UEFA Conference League qualifiers this season. Enzo Maresca has preferred Robert Sánchez ahead of the Dane in the Premier League.
