Chelsea release strong statement as FA makes final decision on Enzo Fernandez following his racist chanting (Video)

As Argentina celebrated their Copa America victory over Colombia, the team was seen singing the opening line of a contentious song in a video posted live on Instagram by Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez.

The recording ends abruptly with an order to “cut the video,” followed by the words, “On passport, French nationality, listen, spread the word, they play in France, but they are all.”

Because of this, the French Football Federation filed a lawsuit against Argentina after a video of its players singing a song with offensive and racist lyrics surfaced.

Following the release of a video showing Enzo Fernandez and his Argentina teammates singing a derogatory song about France, Chelsea released a statement.

“Chelsea Football Club finds all forms of discriminatory behaviour completely unacceptable,” the statement reads. “We are proud to be a diverse, inclusive club where people from all cultures, communities and identities feel welcome.

“We acknowledge and appreciate our player’s public apology and will use this as an opportunity to educate. The Club has instigated an internal disciplinary procedure

The most unexpected development in the ongoing drama is that Enzo Fernandez’s Instagram video featuring him singing along to purportedly racist chants with his Argentina teammates was unfollowed by Chelsea players Malo Gusto, Malang Sarr, Axel Disassi, and Wesley Fofana.

Under new manager Enzo Maresca, the record-breaking Chelsea acquisition will now have to wait for Chelsea’s last action before the 2024–25 season begins.
