Chelsea to change transfer plan as £50m striker to arrive at Stamford Bridge as Victor Osimhen alternative
Because there will soon be a new prospect in West London, Chelsea made the decision to reroute their transfer chase.
Although Victor Osimhen has been connected to Chelsea for a few days, he has stated that he will only accept a permanent move. Since they couldn’t afford the high asking price for him, the Blues had already brought up the prospect of a loan deal. However, they were unsuccessful when Napoli rejected them in favor of other serious parties who could afford the high asking price.
Chelsea has apparently been connected to Brentford attacker Ivan Toney, who has skipped practice this season, according to SkySport. The Blues plan to raise their total since Enzo Maresca made the player their top target.
The Bees had originally valued Ivan Toney at over £70 million for a transfer fee, but it appears they were forced to lower their asking price because the wildly popular team did not show any more interest. Toney is currently only estimated to be worth between £50 and £60 million, and it appears that Enzo Maresca would choose this alternative because it is significantly less expensive than Victor Osimhen’s asking price.
Even at £45 million, Skysport Journalists think Ivan Toney could still be available for less. The Blues would be willing to meet this asking price right away in order to recruit a new player before the transfer window closes on the 30th.
All parties seem prepared to make a trade happen, but Brentford is adamant on getting a fair price and, according to The Times, want at least £50 million for a striker who scored 20 goals in his most recent complete Premier League season.
Manager Thomas Frank responded to a question on Sunday about whether it was only a matter of time before Toney left Brentford by saying, “Yes, I guess that is fair.”
Ivan seems to be a really good player. For a considerable amount of time, he has been our greatest player, if not the best, and a top player.
“Every top player in the Premier League will eventually leave the team, and someone will need to step up and perform well in their place.”
Despite Toney’s eight-month sentence for betting offences that halted his ascent at Brentford, England manager Gareth Southgate nevertheless brought the forward to Euro 2024.
Playing as England’s captain Harry Kane’s backup, he didn’t play much for the Three Lions, but in the elimination round, he provided an important assist and then scored in the penalty shootout against Switzerland.
Ex-England defender Gary Neville said on Sky Sports in response to Toney’s absence from Brentford’s Premier League victory over Crystal Palace and rumours that he may go to Saudi Arabia: “I would love to see him stay in the Premier League.”
However, there are rumours that he might be travelling to Saudi Arabia, which is unfortunate.
While we have certainly enjoyed seeing him in the Premier League over the past several years, it’s likely that he feels obligated to make the most of this contract above all others.
It is evident that he has not had the same career trajectory as many players his age who have played for England and made substantial salaries.
He might do that because he feels compelled to go make as much money as he can.
