Christian Eriksen might be ready for a new challenge. After six trophy-less seasons at Tottenham, Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock believes Chelsea should seize the opportunity to sign such a high-profile player in January.
“The one that spring to mind, not that Chelsea are going to go for him, is Christian Eriksen,” the 38-year-old told Sky Sports.
“Out of contract in the summer and you’re thinking ‘Can we get him at a knockdown price?’. Or do you risk going against other clubs in the summer and competing against five or six other clubs?
“They’re the situations that you have to weigh up as a manager.”
Eriksen is valued at around €90m at the moment. However, with the Dane’s contract running out on 30 June 2020, this transfer window is Tottenham’s last chance to sell the playmaker if he’s not going to extend the Spurs deal. It could possibly imply a much lower asking price.
Eriksen, without a doubt, is an elite player. The 27-year-old has scored 69 goals and registered 89 assists in 301 appearances for Tottenham so far. This season, the Dane has collected 3 goals and 3 assists in 24 matches across all competitions.
The only question is, do Chelsea really need a playmaker with the midfield they’ve got?
