Chelsea have lost another big game this season, and the Blues fans will be disappointed from that.
Chelsea had a good game at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening, and the Blues at least deserved a point for their fine performance, but lost 2-1.
Chelsea left-back Emerson Palmieri has been been named as the worst player for Chelsea in the game against City.
In their player ratings, Sky Sports gave the Italy international a 5/10 rating and wrote about him: “Sent an early shot straight at Ederson when he should have squared it. Showed plenty of willingness to get forward but struggled defensively and was beaten too easily by Mahrez for City’s second goal. Hooked for Reece James early in the second half and might now struggle to keep his place in the Chelsea team.”
Indeed, Chelsea looked better when Reece James came on.
Speaking after the game, Lampard admitted that there are areas the team must improve.
“Some big parts were good [but] there were some parts to improve on. That’s why there’s a gap. That’s why there was a gap last year of however many points,” said Lampard.
“That’s what Manchester City and Liverpool have done. It was a tough game obviously but we went toe-to-toe in the main but it was a moment of quality form Mahrez and a deflection on the first goal that was the difference.
“There was a lot of detail in the game but the amount of time we got into their final third in the first half and in the second half…we just didn’t have that little bit of quality that we can have, it’s not always not there. Today it wasn’t there. Games like this can be lost in the boxes and today I think it was.”
