Conor Gallagher finally makes decision on his Chelsea exit as Chelsea board yet to offer new deal

Conor Gallagher, in giving his assessment of Chelsea’s new head coach Enzo Maresca, hinted at a huge transfer. This Monday, the 44-year-old Leicester City manager signed a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge, solidifying his status as Mauricio Pochettino’s long-term replacement.

Preseason is scheduled to start in early July, giving Maresca four weeks to find answers to several Chelsea problems. The news will probably be dominated by rumored departures and new additions, with decisions on the futures of players like Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah to be made.

Tosin Adarabioyo, who is expected to join as a free agent after leaving Fulham at the conclusion of his contract, and the Blues have already reached an agreement on their first summer move. Classed as a homegrown player, the 26-year-old, Chalobah’s career in west London appears to have come to an end as Chelsea looks to sell for a quick profit.

Gallagher meanwhile, is fresh off a superb season in midfield but the club are still aiming to part ways this summer with his contract to expire in 12 months. Tottenham and Aston Villa have shown interest in the England international but he does not appear to be planning to spend the following season at anywhere but Chelsea.

“It’s really exciting,” he told Sky Sports following England’s 3-0 win against Bosnia and Herzegovina when asked about Maresca. “I’ve heard and seen really good things. Myself and everyone at Chelsea are really excited to work with him.

“We want to get Chelsea back to where they belong so with the new manager we can progress to get where we belong.”

While Maresca may not have a say on Gallagher’s future, he looks to have already made a number of transfer decisions. The Blues are showing a keen interest in RB Leizpig star Benjamin Sesko, goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen along with Crystal Palace duo Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise.

In terms of outgoings alongside Chalobah and Gallagher, returning loanees Romelu Lukaku, Armando Broja, Ian Maatsen and Kepa Arrizabalaga are all expected to be sold.
