“Despite spending millions” – Thomas Frank reveals why Chelsea can’t beat Brentford
Brentford manager Thomas Frank is likely to irritate some Chelsea fans with his comments after Sunday afternoon’s west London derby.
Brentford managed to hold Chelsea to a 0-0 draw at the Gtech Community Stadium in a quite boring affair.
Chelsea were told that they needed to attack by their own supporters, showing just how lacklustre their performance was.
Brentford were hardly amazing either, making Frank’s comments after the game very interesting.
Thomas Frank claims Brentford deserved to beat Chelsea
According to Frank, Chelsea are a “well-coached” team, but it was his side who deserved all three points.
Speaking to the BBC, the Brentford boss said: “The performance overall was very good, we were playing against a top team with a good manager. They are well-coached, they’ve spent billions on players and I think the way we played and performed today, we had the better chances to win the game.”
Enzo Maresca put himself at a disadvantage straight from kick-off after making several big changes to his team.
Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson and Marc Cucurella, three of Chelsea’s most important players, all started on the bench.
Christopher Nkunku started up front instead of Jackson, and that did not exactly work out how Maresca would have hoped.
Chelsea fans were furious with Nkunku during the game, and Maresca decided to take him off during the half-time break.
The Frenchman’s best position is at No.10. But with Palmer playing there and absences elsewhere this season, Nkunku has been deployed in other roles.
