“DONE DEAL” – Chelsea goalkeeper to leave Chelsea

Chelsea goalkeeper Teddy Sharman-Lowe has agreed a deal to join League One outfit Bolton Wanderers on loan for the 2025/26 season.

That’s according to Football Insider with the outlet carrying the latest on the complex goalkeeper situation at Stamford Bridge. The 22-year-old is not one of the names in contention for the number one spot next season but could be a future first team member for the Blues.

Sharman-Lowe spent last season on loan at Doncaster Rovers in League Two and is now set to make a step up the divisions. The goalkeeper racked up 51 appearances across all competitions last term as the club won League Two. The Chelsea youngster kept 15 clean sheets and conceded 54 goals as Grant McCann’s side lifted the trophy.

However, he will now go up against Doncaster Rovers next season when playing for Bolton Wanderers. The Trotters finished eighth in the third tier last season, narrowly missing out on a play-off space. Steven Schumacher replaced Ian Evatt at the club earlier this season.

Sharman-Lowe’s move to Bolton Wanderers comes with Nathan Baxter leaving the club as a free agent. Baxter has now completed a move to Watford having made 72 appearances in two seasons with the Trotters, including the League One play-off final of 2024.

Baxter himself joined Bolton Wanderers from Chelsea in June 2023 with the League One outfit continuing to do their goalkeeper shopping at Stamford Bridge. Sharman-Lowe has previously spent loan spells at Burton Albion, Havant & Waterlooville and Bromley. He is a former England under-21 international.

Sharman-Lowe enjoyed a hugely positive season at Doncaster Rovers last time out. Speaking in October, he said: “The lads have welcomed me in really well. I’ve been here for a while now so I feel like I know everyone and know the area. It’s perfect for me.

“The goalkeeping group is really good too. We spend a lot of time together so it’s important that it all works well. Kyle (Letheren, goalkeeping coach) has been really good too. His sessions are fun and always match-realistic which I like. It’s been really helpful doing the match clips and him giving me good advice.”

The goalkeeping position is set to be a key area for Enzo Maresca and Chelsea this summer. The former Leicester City manager has maintained his backing of first team players Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen but both were guilty of mistakes last term.

The Blues were in talks over a move for AC Milan shot-stopper Mike Maignan ahead of the Club World Cup but could not agree a fee before the first mini Deadline Day this summer. They have also been linked with Burnley man James Trafford but he looks more likely to end up at Newcastle United – the Magpies heavily linked with a bid for the Championship golden glove winner over the past week.
