Aleksandr Golovin is a Monaco player. He’s slipped through Chelsea’s fingers.
We’re not entirely sure where this one went wrong. While the World Cup was still in play, his move to Stamford Bridge looked to be near enough a done deal.
It wasn’t, though. Michael Emenalo’s Monaco have swooped in at the last minute and got the deal done. He signs a five-year deal with the Ligue 1 outfit.

Chelsea’s loss may well be Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ross Barkley’s gain. They now have a more plausible route into the starting eleven.
If either of them are able to unlock their full potential under Maurizio Sarri, missing out on signing Golovin will prove to be no disaster.
