“Don’t be crazy” “Just go & sign him” – Glen Johnson begs Enzo Maresca to sign “WORLD CLASS’ player in January who will solve Chelsea problems
Glen Johnson, a former Chelsea player, thinks it would be absurd for the team to pass up signing Victor Osimhen, a striker for Napoli.
The Blues pursued the Nigerian for most of the summer, but after months of drawn-out talks, they were unable to come to a personal agreement, and the deal fell through.
Jhon Duran of Aston Villa was among the many names Chelsea was linked to throughout Europe, and a deal for Samu Omorodion fell through at the last minute even though it appeared to be finalized.
Johnson thinks it would be absurd for Chelsea to pass on signing Osimhen.
Osimhen subsequently joined Turkish giants Galatasaray on a season long loan deal, although there is a break clause in January.
The Nigeria international’s release clause has also been lowered to €75m compared to the reported €130m it was in the summer.
Osimhen has three goals and four assists in five appearances in all competitions for Galatasaray this season and it will be interesting to see if any club looks to make a move in January.
It remains to be seen if Chelsea’s interest is still there, but former Blue Johnson believes the club would be crazy not to try and sign the 25-year-old.
“Osimhen going on loan to Galatasaray was crazy,” he told Betfred as cited on X.com.
“Considering that he is available, it would be crazy for Chelsea to not try and sign Victor Osimhen.”
A lot was made of Chelsea not signing a striker but Nicolas Jackson’s start to the season has shown it wasn’t a complete disaster.
Daniel Sturridge recently described the 23-year-old as pivotal to Chelsea’s system and he scored his fifth league goal of the season against Liverpool.
