“Don’t sell him, he’s an important player” – Didier Drogba urges Enzo Maresca to keep Chelsea star after 2-0 win over Servette

Didier Drogba, a Chelsea great, has expressed his opinion over Chelsea’s attempts to offload Raheem Sterling, who has been linked to leaving Stamford Bridge following his dismissal from the Blues team.

For a sum of £47.5 million, Sterling left Man City to join CHELSEA in 2022. In 81 games for the Blues, the England international scored 31 goals and provided 12 assists.

Nevertheless, since it was decided to leave him out of the matchday squad for the upcoming weekend’s match against City, there has been a lot of transfer rumours in recent days suggesting that he is done at Stamford Bridge.

Didier Drogba has now spoken out in the midst of all the rumors and speculation that he would be leaving Chelsea, saying that Chelsea need to keep hold of Sterling this transfer window.

Drogba said: “I find the Raheem Sterling one a real strange one. Raheem played in America and did well in pre-season. Raheem’s been around a long time to read the situation and then all of a sudden, before the Man City game, he’s not wanted anymore.

“[Enzo Maresca] needs Sterling – he’s one of their better players. He’s not been great for Chelsea but you’re getting rid of someone better than a lot of other players in that squad.

“It’s like a soap opera and that’s the problem. It doesn’t look good. [Mauricio] Pochettino’s walked away from a big club. In the end, he couldn’t wait to get out of Chelsea. Something’s not right.

“Conor Gallagher’s his captain, is playing every week, then all of a sudden he’s got to get rid of him. It’s not good.

“There’s a lot going on at Chelsea and the manager’s got to hit the ground running. If he doesn’t, the fans will soon get upset.”
