Chelsea have announced their team to take on Leicester in the early kick off today, and there’s one decision from Frank Lampard that is surprising above all others.
The Chelsea boss has dropped Kepa after a string of bad games, giving Willy Caballero the chance to impress as first choice goalkeeper.
It’s not entirely unexpected, but we still didn’t think we’d see it. The world’s most expensive keeper dropped a year and a half after signing… what a farce.
Fans on Twitter went understandably crazy about the whole thing. Some called it the “right decision” while others questioned the logic of dropping your big money signing for a 38 year old who is out of contract in the summer. It just shows how bad things got that there was even a debate.
@AndrewTurmer said: “This is the end for Willian too. Even if he gets a Luiz style new deal, he’ll be binned. But Kepa will stay because we don’t have the money to replace him in the same window we go for Sancho and Werner. £70m players on 6 year deals are tricky to sell”.
@VialliChelseaFC said: “Right decision on Kepa – don’t understand the Pedro decision if true”.
@AlexGoldberg_ also said: Big moment now in Kepa’s career. Yes, he’s still just 25, but many of the top GK’s are just a year or two older than him and they are miles ahead of him form wise. He has a lot of confidence to build back, and a lot of trust to earn back.
