Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is willing to let striker Olivier Giroud to leave the club in January, leaving Michy Batshuayi as the club’s only like-for-like cover for Tammy Abraham if the transfer ban is not lifted, according to Daily Mail.
Lampard is reportedly happy to let the 33 year old striker leave in January because he believes he can use Christian Pulisic as a false nine – with the American more of a mobile option than Giroud in his system.
Giroud is keen on leaving Chelsea in January after starting just three games for Chelsea in all competitions this season.
Saturday’s game against West Ham was his first start for the Blues since August 18.
Giroud’s likely destination is the Serie A with former Chelsea boss and now Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte interested in signing the France international.
Chelsea signed Giroud for around £18million in January 2018 and he has scored just five goals in 45 Premier League games.
Giroud was, however, instrumental in Chelsea’s Europa League triumph last season, scoring 11 goals in the competition. He also scored the opener in the final against Arsenal.
