Chelsea fans bid farewell to Christopher Nkunku after journalist’s update

Chelsea fans were all but unanimous in their reaction to an update regarding Christopher Nkunku’s future at the club.

Nkunku has struggled to establish himself in Enzo Maresca’s plans this season, with his time at Stamford Bridge plagued by injuries and inconsistent form.

The French forward has not featured in Chelsea’s last three matches, missing the recent clash against Liverpool through injury.

Despite arriving with high expectations, his impact has been minimal, and many Chelsea supporters have grown frustrated with Nkunku and his limited contributions. Some fans have even gone as far as suggesting he should be sold to help fund other transfers in the summer window.

Their frustrations may soon be echoed at board level, after a fresh update on the Frenchman’s future at Stamford Bridge.

Christopher Nkunku set to leave Chelsea amid Bayern Munich interest

Fabrizio Romano revealed on X on 5 May that “Nkunku and Chelsea are expected to part ways” during the upcoming summer transfer window.

He also noted that a return to Germany is possible, with Bayern Munich having shown interest in the January window and that “Nkunku is keen” on a new move.

Back in November, Football Insider reported that the Nkunku was already considering a Chelsea exit due to limited first-team opportunities in his debut campaign at Stamford Bridge.

Manchester United were also linked with Nkunku during the winter window, with reports suggesting a potential swap deal involving Alejandro Garnacho. However, a move failed to materialise.

The 27-year-old briefly broke into the starting line-up when Nicolas Jackson was sidelined earlier this year, but has since returned to the bench following Jackson’s return to fitness.

Despite his struggles in the Premier League, scoring just three goals, he has registered 14 goals across all competitions, thanks largely to his appearances in the Conference League.

Chelsea fans pleased to see Christopher Nkunku’s potential exit drawing closer

Chelsea fans have grown increasingly frustrated with Nkunku’s lack of impact since his £52million move in 2023.

His debut season was derailed by injuries, with the forward missing 48 games across all competitions.

Hopes that he would establish himself under Maresca quickly faded, and it now seems a departure is the most likely outcome.

Many Chelsea supporters appear relieved, with some already bidding him farewell online. One fan wrote: “As it should be, we should have parted ways since winter” while another added: “Good riddance.”
