Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has been handed a major Ruben Loftus-Cheek injury boost after the midfielder took a major step in his recovery from injury by training with the ball at his feet again.

Loftus-Cheek has not featured for the Blues since he picked up a serious Achilles injury prior to last season’s Europa League final. Loftus-Cheek posted a video of himself undertaking some solo training, increasing his intensity in a number of simple drills.
Speaking earlier this month, Lampard revealed that Loftus-Cheek had suffered ‘a few setbacks’ on his road to recovery and refused to put a timescale on the midfielder’s return.
“He hasn’t had a new one but it is not flying along as much as we would want and it is not for the want of trying by everybody, including Ruben himself,” said Lampard.
“There is nothing worse than being injured but at the moment we are no closer to him being fit.”
His return to training will give Lampard and Chelsea supporters some encouragement that the midfielder can make a swift return to action in the New Year.
