Chelsea’s defence has been a bit leaky this season as Frank Lampard hasn’t found a balance between playing attacking football and keeping a good defensive shape.
Chelsea have one of the worst defence in the Premier League and have already conceded 19 goals in just 13 league matches. In the Champions League also, the Blues have conceded 8 goals in 5 Champions League matches.
Jorginho who plays the deepest role in the Chelsea midfield has revealed that Lampard always urges them to get into the opposition box. “It’s very important for us midfielders to score goals and Frank keeps asking us to get into the box,” Jorginho told the official Chelsea website.
“He keeps pushing us to do that, which is a good thing for us and for the team because the more players that can score is better for our team.” Lampard’s free role he has given to his midfielders often leaves gaps in the Chelsea midfield which exposes the team’s defence.
Asked if he was concerned about his side defensively, Lampard said: “No, I’m actually not.
“I didn’t like the last 20 minutes against Valencia, but that can happen. If you’re trying to play in a certain way like we are, there will be games when you’ll be tested. I have seen a lot of big teams in the Champions League concede goals this season, not just ourselves.
“We’re conceding more goals than we want, but in terms of what we’re conceding, crosses into our box and teams getting in to our box, it’s not that bad. Our conversion rate isn’t good.”
