‘Find a solution’: Fabrizio Romano claims Chelsea could now make a big signing after yesterday’s developments
Fabrizio Romano has stated that Chelsea could be about to make another big defensive signing this summer.
He claimed on YouTube that this comes as a result of the recent injury suffered by Wesley Fofana ahead of the upcoming pre-season tour.
Yesterday saw the Chelsea squad travel to the United States to take on a number of Premier League sides, as well as Wrexham and Borussia Dortmund.
However, one notable omission from the side on the plane was Fofana, and news quickly emerged that he was suffering from an injury.
The news adds more bad luck to a player who has not had the opportunity to show what he can do on a regular basis since his big-money move from Leicester City.
While it is unclear the extent of the current issue for the Frenchman, there are reports that it has already left them considering their options for next season.
Chelsea considering another centre-back
Romano has now claimed that the club may re-enter the market to try and sign a defender if they are going to be missing Fofana for some time.
He said: “It’s a new injury for Fofana we hope it’s nothing serious, but we wait on that. The feeling is that in case the injury is something serious.
“Chelsea will explore the centre back market to maybe find a solution in the final days of the window. But they want to wait for Fofana and the priority is Fofana.”
With the club currently looking to convince Levi Colwill that he has a clear path to regular minutes next season, it would be advised not to act too quickly in the market this summer.
Fingers crossed for Fofana that the injury suffered is not a serious one, and he can return to regular football soon.
