Erling Braut Haaland and Jadon Sancho have struck up an impressive relationship in the short time the pair have been working together at Borussia Dortmund this season.
The England teenager is playing a starring role for Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga and became the first player to hit 25 goals in the German top flight before his 20th birthday with his goal against Union Berlin on Saturday.
The frontman has made his way into the England senior team since his arrival in Germany, becoming one of Gareth Southgate’s trusted front three. He has been linked with a big-money move back to the Premier League – having started his career at Manchester City – with Chelsea seen to be his most likely destination.
A deal could not be done in the January transfer window, but Frank Lampard and the Blues are expected to reignite their interest in the summer window, with owner Roman Abramovich keen to make a “statement signing”.
However, Dortmund brought in the equally sought-after Erling Braut Haaland in the January window, and he and Sancho have struck up quite the partnership. Haaland has scored a shopping seven goals in three games since arriving at Dortmund, with Sancho acting as a key component in those strikes.
And after their latest outing – a 5-0 win over Union Berlin – Haaland spoke about his relationship with Sancho and how it cpould prove to be a stumbling block for any interested parties in the future. And he openly admitted that the pair needed to “keep it down a bit” otherwise other clubs would come calling for Sancho.
Haaland said: “You see on the pitch that it is very good and I do not want him to give me too many assists so we have to keep it down a bit! He’s a great guy.” Sancho returned the favour by saying: “Me and him combine very well and we bring it into the game and help the team. I am very happy that he is here.”
