Reece James was Chelsea’s best player against Newcastle at the weekend, providing most of our attacking threat all game and keeping his side locked down in defence.
After 75 minutes he was subbed off injured however, and you could feel the tension suddenly gripping the Chelsea fans in the stadium as they cautiously applauded him off.
Could this be a recurrence of the ankle issue that saw him out for almost 6 months over the summer?
That was the fear in the stadium and on Twitter. But reports since have indicated that it’s just “bruising.”
That’s what TalkSport say, at least, in an exclusive that says “minor bruising” is the issue after a “heavy landing.”
It might mean that tomorrow night’s game with Arsenal comes too soon however. We will probably find out from Frank Lampard in his press conference coming up any moment now.
UPDATE: Frank Lampard has said that Reece James is “in contention” for tomorrow night’s Arsenal game, and will be assessed in the next 24 hours.
