According to The Sun, Frank Lampard is planning a summer clear-out at Chelsea with eight players lined up for the exit door.
Kepa Arrizabalaga, who has failed to impress this season and recently lost his starting place to Willy Caballero, is among those Lampard wants to move on so he can bring in his own reinforcements.
Midfield pair Ross Barkley and Jorginho may also be axed alongside left-backs Marcos Alonso and Emerson, while Kurt Zouma, Willian and Pedro will be assessed between now and the end of the campaign.
This comes after Lampard watched his side crash to a 3-0 Champions League last-16 first-leg defeat at home to Bayern Munich, while they also sit fourth in the Premier League.
The heavy loss merely emphasised what Lampard already knew – that the squad he inherited requires significant surgery in order to return to the top level and challenge for trophies.
It has been acknowledged that there are risks to implementing such a dramatic turnover of players, but Lampard is in favour of a major cull to accelerate the squad’s development.
Lampard has already recruited £37million winger Hakim Ziech from Ajax, who will join this summer to add more creativity to the attack.
It is likely the boss will push for four more signings, with left-back Ben Chilwell of Leicester and Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak topping their list of priorities.
