French magazine Le Figaro have asked Olivier Giroud if he is content with his current position within the Chelsea squad as a back-up for Tammy Abraham.

The media put the question like this: Is Abraham is the player ‘who will put the world champion on the sidelines?’.

Giroud replied: “Obviously not! I have goals in my head. I’m here to help the new generation, but beware, the retirement time has not come.

“I’m still hungry and have a lot of ambition. I don’t want to be Chelsea’s second-choice striker, for sure. Just because I’m here as an older brother for young people, it doesn’t mean I’m out on the sidelines.”

The forward also pointed out that he has to secure his place in the national team for the upcoming Euro 2020. Earlier Giroud hinted that after that tournament he will retire from the international football.

Olivier said: “Contrary to what some people think, I do not have a fixed place in the France team

“I know the sacrifices and efforts that must be made to be summoned. It’s up to me to fulfil my mission.

As long as I can bring something, the coach can count on me.”
