Olivier Giroud has made a remark that is likely to scar Arsenal fans yet again.
After scoring the Blues’ first goal in the Europa League final, Giroud did his best not to celebrate it but still could not hide his pride.
In the hours after the game, he was shown on a video shouting ‘Thank you, Arsenal!’ while holding on to the trophy. The Gunners might easily take it for banter.
Now, in an interview with our club’s official website, he has said that a move to Chelsea was ‘an improvement’ because here he wins more trophies.
He has also confessed he is ‘proud’ to become Europa League’ top marksman, having scored 11 goals.
“I have had a lot of game-time in the Europa League this year and I always try to just step up and do my best for the team. I am the happiest man in the world.
“It was a good cross from Emerson and I made a run to the front post. It was a nice header and I have to thank my team-mates for helping me to score those goals.’
“It was an improvement going from Arsenal to Chelsea and I knew I would have the opportunity to win some more trophies. To win this Europa League one year after winning the World Cup is great for me.
In 5 years with Arsenal, Giroud won the FA Cup three times but knew no European success
“I’m a Blue, a proper Blue. It’s a new chapter of my career and it was very special to score. I am so proud of this team.
“I’m 32, nearly 33, but I feel like there is more and more to come. I am still hungry and I am looking forward to next year: playing in the Champions League and fighting for more titles.”
Recently, Olivier Giroud has signed a one-year-long extension to his contract at Chelsea which means that he will remain with us at least until June 2020.
