The Blues served their transfer ban during the summer, appealed it at the beginning of the season and last month found out that they would once again be able to sign a few players in the January transfer window, especially as they may need a replacement for Olivier Giroud.

Giroud has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons over the past few months as he has shown his unhappiness at not being first choice at Stamford Bridge, with Lampard even admitting that he could let the Frenchman leave the club in the winter window, if he keeps pushing for an exit. And German striker Werner, is rated as one of the hottest prospects in Europe, with reports in the media all suggesting that he is seeking that big move to further develop his name in the game, with a host of top clubs linked with a possible move.

The German is one of the top scorers in Europe this season with 23 goals in all competitions, and now reports on the Daily Express have claimed that Chelsea have opened talks with the German about a possible January move, as they seek to beat off Liverpool in the process. The news comes after Werner offered the Blues hope of a possible deal by claiming the Premier League is an attractive proposition.

The 23-year-old told BILD: “The Premier League is certainly the most interesting league, you have to say. “There is a certain flair to watching the English league and playing there.

“But many Germans have also been very successful in Spain, such as Sami Khedira and Mesut Ozil.”

Tammy Abraham has been brilliant but he cannot keep up the level of performances he has been for Chelsea throughout the whole campaign, especially with all the games that the Blues will probably feature in this season, so a move for Werner would be a good one to make.

He would offer the club something different up top and also bring in that factor that the blues will have two strikers who can score goals, not just one. So now that the transfer ban has been shortened, it will be interesting to see who they will try and acquire as Lampard needs a few players in the next transfer window.
