“He may not play for Chelsea again after what happened” – Enzo Maresca gives shock update on £52m Chelsea star
Enzo Maresca has just taken his press conference ahead of Chelsea’s Conference League semi final against Djurgarden tomorrow, and the Blues boss had some injury news.
The squad is largely fit, but there were was an update on one player with big question marks over his future.
Maresca’s confusing answer on Nkunku
We heard the news that Christopher Nkunku wasn’t in the travelling squad before the presser, and when asked about it, Maresca rather confusing, either mistaking his English or referring to something we didn’t heard when he replied to the question of whether Nkunku would miss the rest of this season:
“They’re going to, because it just happened, so they’re going to, we have more news probably, not tomorrow, probably on Friday when we are back.”
We’re not sure who they are, or what they’re going to do. Presumably it’s the medical staff, and they’re going to have an update on Friday.
Bad vibes coming off striker situation
Nkunku has looked very uninterested in playing for Chelsea in recent months, and was dropped from the squad entirely for last weekend’s game. You’d wouldn’t be to suspect that the Frenchman’s disappearance since – potentially for the rest of the season – is just seen as convenient for both parties.
Maresca doesn’t want to use him, Nkunku doesn’t want to be here, neither wants a nasty situation, so he’s sitting it out and presumably working on moves away behind the scenes. It will be very interesting to see if he’s called on again before the end of the year. With Nicolas Jackson now fit and Tyrique George and Pedro Neto now both effectively ahead of him in the pecking order to back Jackson up, it may be a face saving exercise all around.
