“He will arrive Chelsea before deadline” – Romano hints on Chelsea plan to bring in new player in final days
According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are still looking for a new midfielder as part of their plans in the final days of the transfer window.
The January window ends on Monday, and so far the Blues haven’t been as active as anticipated, although this is usually the point where transfer activity increases.
Chelsea have completed the sale of Cesare Casadei to Torino, but they still need to offload several players before the deadline and would ideally like to add one or two to their squad.
Chelsea in the market for a new midfielder
The Blues are looking to strengthen in attack, but were dealt a blow with the news that Mathys Tel has decided to stay at Bayern Munich, whilst they are also said to have joined the race for Brighton’s Evan Ferguson.
Midfield is another area where Chelsea could do with an extra body given the lack of depth due to Romeo Lavia’s persistent injury issues.
Chelsea currently only have two fit midfielders in Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo, with £30m summer signing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall seemingly not trusted by Enzo Maresca.
There have been calls to recall one of Lesley Ugochukwu or Andrey Santos from their respective loans at Southampton and Strasbourg, but that seems unlikely to happen.
The Blues had explored a loan move for Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz, and Romano has now provided up an update on the midfield situation with time running out.
He took to X.com and said:
“Chelsea remain in the market for a new midfielder as part of final days’ plan. Board working to find the best solution to support Maresca with new midfielder.”
