“He will be back when”.. – Enzo Maresca gives worrying update on Cole Palmer’s injury ahead of Arsenal clash

Cole Palmer may still play against Arsenal on Sunday afternoon, according to Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca.

Since Enzo Maresca joined the Blues in the summer, the playmaker has consistently featured in the starting eleven for Premier League games.

However, after the England international sustained a knee injury last weekend due to a late charge from Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez, his ability to extend that run to 11 starts is currently in jeopardy.

Palmer managed to finish the last few minutes at Old Trafford, but he had to ice the area and have a scan afterwards.

Speaking about Cole Palmer’s chances of playing against Arsenal, Maresca said…

“Cole is getting better, but because he can walk and have dinner doesn’t mean he is completely fit.

“He is getting better and we still have two days to prepare for the game. Hopefully, we can have him for a session – at least on Saturday – and then we take a decision.”

Enzo Maresca will still have to decide between Joao Felix and Christopher Nkunku, who are both keen to make an impression in the top division despite only making one league start each season, in the event that Cole Palmer is unavailable.

However, they have contributed 15 goals and two assists across all competitions, so it would be prudent to avoid taking any chances on Palmer given that Maresca has two elite players who can fill in for him.

The Blues, meanwhile, will enter this weekend’s match fresh off an 8-0 Europa Conference League thumping of FC Noah. As a result, the competition’s scoreline set a record.

Arsenal is in bad form going into West London and hasn’t won in the Premier League since October 5th.
