“Here’s our new target” – Enzo Maresca finally set new Chelsea target for the rest of the season
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has reaffirmed that securing a top-four finish remains the club’s primary goal this season. Ahead of their crucial Premier League clash against Aston Villa on Saturday night, the Blues sit in sixth place, just one point behind fourth-placed Manchester City.
Maresca has faced criticism over his remarks regarding Chelsea’s ambitions this season, but he remains adamant that qualifying for the Champions League is the focus.
“We said many times: I think we spent almost the season in the top four and with 13 games to go, the target, for sure, is top four,” Maresca stated on Friday morning.
“We will try our best to achieve that. Knowing the difficult moment we have now is one of the most important reasons why is because of the injury situation. Five or six significant players out.”
Despite Chelsea’s injury struggles, Maresca maintains his vision of restoring the club to its competitive best.
“I’m here to win games—to bring this club to fight for titles,” he continued. “The problem is when you win games, you look humble, and when you don’t win games, you look like a lack of ambition. Since day one, my intention is to bring this club where it needs to be.”
With Chelsea firmly in the race for Champions League qualification, the clash against Aston Villa presents a vital opportunity to strengthen their top-four hopes.
