“He’s injured throughout last season” – Enzo Maresca makes Chelsea fresh Captain decision (Video)
The question of who his club captain would be heading into the upcoming season was posed to newly appointed Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca last night.
With the first preseason friendly against Wrexham in the USA early tomorrow morning, Chelsea’s new campaign gets underway.
Before the game, in the wee hours of this morning, Maresca and the club captain from the previous campaign, Reece James, addressed the media.
But is James going to stay as captain?
It seems so…. We think!
“For sure, James will be one of the captains,” Maresca replied when asked who will be his club captain next season. “He has already been in the past. I want him again to be one of the leaders of this team. I like players who take responsibility.”
But James says he hasn’t been told yet.
“You probably know better than me,” James replied when asked if he was captain this season. “Directly I haven’t been told if I will be captain. I am not the one who makes the decision.”
