’He’s lazy, he makes him go on his right’ – Owen Hargreaves blasts Chelsea star poor display after Brentford loss

Owen Hargreaves was not impressed by Chelsea’s Wesley Fofana during last night’s defeat against Brentford.

Chelsea fans were put through more pain on Wednesday night, suffering a 2-0 home loss against Brentford in the Premier League.

It now means the Blues have lost five consecutive matches across all competitions since Frank Lampard returned as caretaker manager. Next, we travel to league leaders Arsenal on Tuesday.

Cesar Azpilicueta’s own goal put the visitors ahead during the first-half. Brentford substitute Bryan Mbeumo then added a second in the 78th minute to clinch victory.

BT Sport pundit Hargreaves strongly criticised the defending from Wesley Fofana during Brentford’s goal.

The 22-year-old centre-back faced up against Mbeumo when he was driving towards the box, but he allowed him to cut inside to his favoured left foot and shot goalwards.

“Mbeumo is a fantastic player, very left-footed; make him go on his right. That is embarrassing to let him come on his left foot and come back inside. Make him go down the line and cross it. Instead, his body shape is all wrong, he’s lazy in his defending, and that goal sums up where Chelsea are at,” Hargreaves told BT Sport 3

In our view, Fofana has been one of the only few positives during a miserable month for Chelsea supporters.

We do agree he could’ve done much better with his 1v1 defending for Mbeumo goal, though.

The French centre-half is still a young defender that will improve with experience and more time, so we are still excited about his future.

Unfortunately, Chelsea still have six more games to play during this 2022/23 season.

As suspect as the defending was last night, Chelsea’s glaring problem is at the top end of the pitch. Incidentally, they’ve now scored once in their last seven games across all competitions.
