“He’s our new penalty taker” “No doubt” – Enzo Maresca confirms who will take Chelsea’s penalties next season after Club America win
Out of all the drawbacks Chelsea supporters have experienced thus far this summer, things got much better following last night’s performance.
The Blues defeated Club America 3-0, playing especially well in the first half of the match.
In their first game under new manager Enzo Maresca, the team won, but it was bookended by a number of penalties that they converted each side of halftime.
Despite appearing as though teammate Noni Madueke was fighting for a goal, Christopher Nkunku scored the first one.
In the second half, the winger was given a chance to score from 12 yards, which he gratefully took.
Cole Palmer to take Chelsea penalties
However, Maresca has told journalist Ben Jacobs that it will actually be Cole Palmer who is trusted with those duties next season.
He said: “But I am the guy who decides. And when he returns with us, for sure Cole is the taker.”
Palmer didn’t miss from the spot last season, with him making finding the net under immense pressure a real skill of his.
His ability to find the net every single time he was called upon is seriously impressive, and a run which honestly doesn’t feel like going wrong at the moment.
Palmer is not scheduled to join up with the Blues in the United States this summer in order for him to get the best out of the rest he has earned.
