“He’s the root cause of Chelsea’s problems. He made so many tactical errors today especially in the defense” – Didier Drogba points out two choices made by Enzo Maresca that played a major role in Chelsea’s poor defensive display that leads to two goals being conceded in only the first half
“I’m starting to believe that Enzo Maresca is the root cause of Chelsea’s problems. He made so many tactical errors today, especially in the defense,” Drogba stated during his appearance on a popular football broadcast.
His words cut deep into the current crisis brewing at Stamford Bridge, and fans are beginning to echo his concerns.
Drogba, who famously led Chelsea to Champions League glory in 2012, singled out two specific choices made by Maresca that contributed heavily to the team’s defensive collapse in the first half.
Chelsea end the first half against Ipswich Town with a 2-0 deficit, giving the relegation-bound side a chance for an unlikely double over the Blues this season in the Premier League.
Enzo Maresca’s side was hurt twice by Ipswich’s direct attacks. The first goal came from Chelsea’s left side, while the second originated from Trevoh Chalobah losing a duel in the middle of the pitch and freeing up space on his right flank.
Didier Drogba said after the match:
“Imagine fighting for a spot in the Champions League and going behind 0-2 against a team that’s essentially relegated. But we’re ‘on the right track’, of course!”
“Another installment of ‘Why Chelsea won’t be playing in the Champions League next season’ on display rn.”
“Defensively a shambles, no matter who we play back there. Defensive transitions & defending the back post all year have been absolutely horrendous.”
“I refuse to believe the players are the problem here. Bar one or two, we’ve definitely got the quality. This was the same team which took the league by storm at the start of the season. The problem is definitely tactical.” Drogba added
