“I can see them improving Maresca team” “Please sign them now” – Mikel Obi names two ‘shock’ players who Chelsea needs to sign this summer
John Obi Mikel would be happy to see Chelsea sign Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo from Manchester United this summer.
Chelsea are set for another busy summer and officially confirmed Liam Delap as their first signing on Wednesday night following his £30m move from Ipswich.
The Blues face a critical window and could look to add another striker, but they are also in the market for a centre back and right footed attacker to bolster Enzo Maresca’s ranks.
Mikel would welcome Garnacho and Mainoo at Chelsea
With Delap through the door focus now turns to signing a winger, with Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens looking the most likely arrival as things stand.
However, Chelsea were strongly linked with a move for Garnacho in January and those links have refused to go away.
Garnacho is thought to be valued at around £40m, and Chelsea have reportedly remained in contact with his representatives.
The 20-year-old scored 11 goals and registered ten assists in 58 appearances in all competitions last season, and Mikel has said he’d welcome the Argentine and Mainoo at Chelsea.
“I like both of these players,” Mikel told Metro.
“There are so many factors you have to look at right now with Manchester United. If those are two players Chelsea want, I will take those two, definitely.
“They can only come in and improve us as a football club. I know if they come in, they will improve us as a team.”
Chelsea were linked with Mainoo in January and United could cash in on their academy graduates to help raise much needed funds, however given the options Chelsea have in midfield a move for the England international makes little sense.
Jamie Gittens move close
Whilst Garnacho might still be on Chelsea’s radar a move for Gittens appears far more likely with negotiations over a move for the England under-21 international said to be going well.
