“I disagree with that” – Pochettino reveals who to blame for Chelsea 2-1 defeat to Manchester united
Mauricio Pochettino really snap after Chelsea’s loss to Newcastle a few weeks ago, and it was the first real moment of anger we’ve seen from the coach. Today we thought we might get a similar reaction. Most of those who watched the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United tonight thought Chelsea were pretty awful, but Pochettino didn’t seem to be among them.
Speaking in his press conference after the game, he rather batted away questions about whether he was disappointed. He was directly asked to compare his feelings to those he had after Newcastle, and said the following:
“Now is not the same because I think we miss players, we play nearly with the same players against Brighton, with one less for 60 minutes.
One day more rest for Manchester United to prepare the game. See the bench, many young players try to help us. That is not an excuse but we need to talk about the reality and that is the reality.
“I am not disappointed because they gave everything. but maybe we didn’t match their energy, they were a little bit more aggressive than us.
We were competitive as we created chances, maybe enough to draw the game. But when the result is 2-1 and you get nothing, you get more critics and try to find different reason why we didn’t win. I think we need to be calm, keep going, trying to help the players and now we need to lift all of the players because we need to be ready Sunday.”
It sounds like panic stations from the Chelsea coach. He knows that he risks losing the crowd if things don’t start improving soon. He’s trying to take the pressure off the players, who just aren’t cutting it at the moment.
