“I don’t want him” “I told him to leave” – Enzo Maresca confirms January exit for unwanted Chelsea star
After being appointed manager of Chelsea, Enzo Maresca made it known which players he didn’t want to play for Chelsea.
The Blues manager selected his starting lineup and let the others go. Regretfully, some were unable to sign with new teams prior to the summer transfer window closing.
Carney Chukwuemeka is one of those Chelsea players that stayed, and Enzo Maresca has stated that the 20-year-old isn’t in his plans.
He said: “I will say exactly the same thing I have said many times: Carney is a very good player, but for the amount of players we have, we decided at the beginning of the season it is probably better to leave and go somewhere, prove himself and playing 30 or 35 games than being here and play less games.
“Unfortunately that didn’t happen. He is our player. He had some minutes the other day, today he was not involved. Hopefully, we can give him more minutes.”
Chukwuemeka featured as a substitute in the League Cup game against Barrow where he made a 14-minute cameo appearance.
Chukwuemeka showed lots of promise last season under Mauricio Pochettino, but his progress was marred by injuries.
