‘I know him , he fake his injury’ – International Manager slams Chelsea star

According to Ivory Coast manager Jean-Louis Gasset has joked that Chelsea’s Wesley Fofana faked an injury this international break.

He told Mondial Sport that he was hoping to pick the defender for his nation after he previously coached him at Saint Etienne. It has been an injury-hit first campaign for the Frenchman since he made his transfer to Chelsea from Leicester City last summer.

However, since Fofana has been back he has established himself as an undroppable member of the defence under Graham Potter.

He timed his return perfectly, with Thiago Silva currently out injured following the recent defeat against Tottenham.

Since then, consecutive dominant displays have helped the Blues recapture something resembling some form.

Three consecutive wins, including the big Champions League victory over Borussia Dortmund have relieved the pressure on the manager for now at least.

Gasset jokes about Fofana’s injury

His good form saw him rewarded with his first call-up to the French first team, however a minor injury suffered in the last league game against Everton forced him to pull out from the squad.

With him yet to make his French debut, he is still technically available for selection for Ivory Coast, something Gasset still hopes to happen.

He said: “I know Fofana! I saw him start in Saint-Etienne at 17, him and Saliba. I have a father and son relationship with him.

“I went to see Wesley Fofana, we spoke, I thought of him…he was on Didier Deschamps’ list, he was unfortunately injured, he may have done it on purpose! “

Chelsea fans will be hopeful this week off from competitive football will see Fofana return to availability straight away for the Blues.

They are currently beginning preparations for not only the return of the Premier League, but also the Champions League quarter-final tie against Real Madrid.
